About the job

Requirements
  • At least 8 years of engineering experience in power electronics, electrical equipment, or industrial energy systems, including at least 4 years in an NPI, product development, or product engineering role owning a product from prototype through production ramp.
  • Hands-on experience with at least two of the following: battery energy storage systems, utility- or data-center-scale inverters, medium-voltage transformers or switchgear, uninterruptible power supplies, STATCOM or power-quality equipment, or liquid-cooling systems such as CDUs, chillers, or hydronics.
  • Working knowledge of relevant qualification standards, including UL 9540/9540A, UL 1741, IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, IEC 62477/IEC 62909, IEEE C37 and C57 series, NFPA 70/855, UL 1778, or comparable IEC equivalents.
  • Experience defining and executing structured qualification programs, including EVT/DVT/PVT, FAT/SAT, type testing, and reliability testing, and closing failures through root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action.
  • Familiarity with supplier factory environments, including production lines, test bays, and quality systems, and ability to assess supplier readiness to ship at rate.
  • Fluency in design-for-manufacturing and design-for-test principles and supplier engineering change order and change-control processes.
  • Ability to reason about how inverters, batteries, transformers, and cooling loops interact as a system at a site.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or power engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Willingness to travel 30–40% to supplier factories and data center sites, including internationally.
  • Minimum education is a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Required field of study is a field relevant to the role, as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
Responsibilities
  • Own the NPI program for each new power or cooling product, from concept selection through ramp, including the gate schedule, exit criteria, and risk register.
  • Drive early supplier design engagement by translating site requirements—including fault current, grid interconnection, harmonic and ride-through requirements, thermal envelopes, footprint, and serviceability—into product requirements and specifications, and negotiating trade-offs with supplier engineering teams.
  • Lead design-for-manufacturing, design-for-test, and design-for-X reviews with suppliers so designs are manufacturable at the required rate, testable in the factory, and serviceable in the field.
  • Plan and run prototype and pilot builds by defining EVT/DVT/PVT scope and sample counts, witnessing builds, owning test plans, and driving root cause and corrective action for failures.
  • Qualify products for deployment by defining and executing first-article inspection, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and integrated system testing with the electrical and cooling chain, and signing off on production readiness.
  • Hand off qualified products, control plans, test procedures, and known-issue lists to Manufacturing Quality and Supply Chain Delivery, and support teams through initial production ramps.
  • Build the reliability picture by running FMEA/DFMEA with suppliers, defining reliability targets and burn-in requirements, and feeding field-failure data into subsequent revisions.
  • Coordinate with design engineering, construction, commissioning, utilities/interconnection, safety, and sourcing to integrate NPI schedules with campus delivery schedules.
  • Track supplier readiness and risk with clear metrics, escalate issues early, and hold technical reviews that resolve issues.
  • Spend time on supplier factory floors, in test labs, and at site commissioning.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with solid-state transformers, grid-forming inverters, E-STATCOM, or other emerging power-conversion equipment being introduced to data-center or utility applications for the first time.
  • NPI or product engineering experience at a hyperscaler, large utility-scale developer, or Tier-1 power equipment OEM.
  • Background in grid interconnection studies, protection coordination, or power-system modeling using PSCAD, ETAP, PSS/E, or similar tools.
  • Liquid-cooling product introduction experience with CDU, rear-door heat exchanger, direct-to-chip, or immersion systems.
  • Reliability engineering credentials such as CRE or Six Sigma, or experience running HALT/HASS programs.
  • Firmware and controls validation experience for power-conversion equipment, including inverter control loops, BMS, EMS, or PLC/SCADA integration.
  • Experience standing up or scaling new supplier manufacturing lines, including contract manufacturing and international sites.

About the company

Anthropic builds the Claude family of AI models and sells them to businesses, software developers, and consumers, with research on making AI safe and understandable at the center of its work. In 2024 it introduced the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside apps and data that OpenAI and Google adopted the next year. People use the Claude app to write and analyze files, programmers hand coding tasks to Claude Code, and companies build Claude into their own products through its API. Anthropic earns money from subscriptions, business plans, and usage-based API fees. Siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei founded Anthropic in 2021 with other former OpenAI employees, and it is based in San Francisco.

What believers are saying

  • Sales are multiplying: Anthropic's yearly revenue pace topped $65 billion in July 2026, over sevenfold since December 2025.
  • IPO plans advanced: October 2026 reports describe investor meetings and a mid-November listing target; staff shares face lockups.
  • Lower office minimum: 627 of 646 Anthropic job posts in October 2026 require at least 25% office time.

What critics are saying

  • Job security rides on growth: Anthropic's IPO prospectus lists $518 billion in cloud and computing bills due in coming years.
  • Defense work stays off-limits: in September 2026, appeals judges voted 2-1 to let the Pentagon keep blacklisting Anthropic.
  • Growth is priced in: Anthropic's valuation reached $965 billion in May 2026, up from $380 billion in February.

What makes Anthropic unique

  • Investors don't control its board alone: Anthropic's independent Long-Term Benefit Trust elects a growing number of directors.
  • It isn't tied to one chipmaker: Claude runs on Nvidia GPUs plus custom AI chips designed by Google and Amazon.
  • It holds back its riskiest model: Claude Mythos 5.1, launched September 2026, goes only to vetted cyberdefenders and life scientists.

Anthropic pledges 5% of shares to fund tackling AI job disruption

Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude models, has committed 5% of its shares to a new public benefit fund that will address job disruption caused by AI. The commitment is subject to stockholder approval. The company's board could add 2% of shares for every 50% increase in Anthropic's value, at its discretion. The move builds on an earlier $200 million commitment to study and reduce AI's impact on employment.

Replit drops Anthropic for OpenAI over cost and performance, CEO says

Replit is no longer working with Anthropic, chief executive officer and co-founder Amjad Masad said Thursday at TechCrunch Disrupt. He cited cost, partnership and performance. "I think ChatGPT is better now," Masad said, adding that Replit's internal and public benchmarks show Sol and Astra build vibe-coded applications from scratch more effectively. Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August. An unnamed person familiar with the matter said the Anthropic partnership was still in place. A September blog post cited Anthropic's Claude models as running in Replit Agent's production environment. Masad said enterprise contracts made up about 15% of revenue this year, up from 2% last year. More than 50% of revenue is B2B.

Anthropic gets top junk credit rating from KBRA ahead of $35B chip financing

Anthropic received a double B plus issuer rating from Kroll Bond Rating Agency (KBRA) in June, the highest speculative-grade score and one notch below investment grade. The rating came before a $35bn chip financing led by Apollo, according to documents seen by the FT. Investment grade would lower the AI startup's borrowing costs and open it to investors such as pension funds and life insurers. Anthropic expects to spend more than $500bn on computing and infrastructure over the next decade. KBRA used a "risk score" because Anthropic withheld metrics including free cash flow. About $4.4bn of junior debt in the package carries Anthropic's credit risk and was sold at a yield of about 8.5%. Banks are now assembling a $60bn deal for more custom AI chips.
