About the job
- A Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist–Physician-based (CCS-P), or other professional coding certification is required.
- Two years of experience performing chart audits or assigning appropriate Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) codes through documentation review in a physician practice or hospital environment is required.
- Knowledge of government, legal, and regulatory provisions related to collection activities is required.
- Knowledge of government programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, is required.
- Knowledge of insurance company policies and procedures is required.
- Knowledge of CPT, International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision (ICD-9), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding is required.
- Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology is required.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage time efficiently is required.
- Creative thinking, hands-on problem-solving, and the ability to analyze and respond to data are required.
- Effective communication and customer service skills are required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, payer websites, databases, patient scheduling applications, and medical information systems is required.
- Attendance is an essential job function.
- Perform daily charge reviews of visits, diagnoses, radiation oncology, and surgeries for accurate coding and levels.
- Input charges into the practice management system or electronic medical record (EMR).
- Audit physician, nurse practitioner, and clinical oncology staff documentation for correct CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifier coding as assigned.
- Stay informed about current coding regulations, auditing standards, professional standards, and company and department policies and procedures applicable to oncology medical coding.
- Assist with third-party payor and other audit requests by compiling, organizing, and reviewing chart documentation.
- Work with other department coders on difficult cases.
- Perform evaluation and management (E/M) and CPT coding reviews and projects related to physician coding compliance.
- Assist practice leadership in analyzing data, identifying issues, reaching conclusions, and proposing resolution strategies for complex coding issues.
- Communicate coding and documentation issues to practice leadership by helping prepare reports and memoranda about audit results and coding compliance matters.
- Assist with auditing and entering charges into the EMR and/or practice management system.
- Review charges and claims for accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
- Abstract surgical procedures, assign the appropriate place of service, and determine medical decision-making levels for E/M services.
- Perform additional assigned responsibilities that support the practice's cancer-care mission.
- Four years of coding experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical oncology, radiation, and surgery coding and leveling is highly preferred.

Cencora has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the majority stake it doesn't own in OneOncology, a physician-led oncology management services organisation, from TPG. The transaction values OneOncology's enterprise at $7.4 billion, with Cencora paying approximately $5 billion in total cash consideration, including debt retirement. OneOncology has grown substantially since Cencora's initial investment, attracting leading practices through its physician-led approach. The acquisition will strengthen Cencora's specialty solutions and enhance patient access to pharmaceuticals across communities. The deal is expected to close by the end of Cencora's fiscal 2026 second quarter, subject to regulatory approvals. Cencora plans to fund the transaction through new debt financing and expects the acquisition to be approximately neutral to adjusted diluted EPS in the first twelve months. The company has raised its long-term guidance to reflect OneOncology's expected contribution.
