About the Job

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in quality engineering.
  • Training and demonstrated success applying design for quality, problem-solving methodologies, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, design of experiments, and statistical process control.
  • A strong background and demonstrated success applying statistical methods.
  • Capability with Minitab, JMP, or other statistical software.
  • Ability to resolve quality issues urgently in a 24x7 production environment and work occasional overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely support to internal or external customers to develop and sustain quality in Semi-Truck Drive-Axle manufacturing operations.
  • Assess risks and engineer quality controls, including for incoming components, and prevention methods to achieve production targets and deliver a safe and reliable product.
  • Ensure quality of incoming components, production-process quality controls and assurance, root cause analysis and resolution of customer-impacting problems, continuous improvement, and risk mitigation.
  • Drive cross-functional teams to achieve field reliability, scrap, and first-pass-yield targets; develop manufacturing requirements, quality standards, and product quality plans to meet customer expectations.
  • Deploy manufacturing-level requirements to subsystems, assemblies, and components to maintain focus on design and customer needs.
  • Identify critical requirements to ensure supplier and production focus on critical needs.
  • Lead development of design and process FMEAs with development teams to identify and address critical risks; support manufacturing-equipment, controls, and test-plan development to address identified risks.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure product subsystem quality, manufacturability, and reliability; assist development with dimensional analysis, statistical tolerancing, and other methods to investigate how part and process variability affect system performance.
  • Support process capability analyses to investigate whether suppliers and production processes can meet defined specifications and quality standards.
  • Design experiments using design of experiments or other methods to help design and process teams investigate alternatives and resolve quality issues.
  • Manage and facilitate the root cause and corrective action system by tracking and validating issues; support root cause analysis through brainstorming, lean methodologies, hypothesis testing, design of experiments, DMAIC, and 8D.
  • Continuously improve and develop a proactive quality control system to address and control product quality for current and future products.

Desired Qualifications

  • Six Sigma or ASQ certification is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience with electro-mechanical assemblies, semiconductor, or high-volume manufacturing is preferred.
  • Data mining, databases, and scripting experience, such as MySQL or Python, is preferred.

About the Company

Tesla

Makes electric cars, robotaxis and grid batteries

Tesla makes electric cars and batteries that store power for homes and utilities, and it develops self-driving software and humanoid robots. In 2023, its Model Y became the first electric vehicle to rank as the world's best-selling car. Buyers order the Model 3 sedan, Model Y SUV, or Cybertruck pickup directly from Tesla instead of through dealers, and they charge on its Supercharger fast-charging network. It also sells Megapack and Powerwall batteries, runs a robotaxi service, and charges drivers a monthly fee for self-driving software that still needs their supervision. Tesla was founded in 2003, with Elon Musk as its lead early investor and a recognized co-founder, and it is based in Austin, Texas.
