An amended site plan for a new two-story Crunch Fitness gym was approved in Wentzville during the Aug. 26 Board of Aldermen meeting. The original site plan failed to gain board approval in May due to concerns about placement near the Crystal Creek residential subdivision. Residents requested the proposed 24-hour facility have its overnight hours restricted and expressed concerns regarding noise and light pollution and shared stormwater responsibilities. The proposal returned before the board in August after the developer gathered feedback from residents and staff, and made adjustments to the plan. During the Aug. 26 meeting, residents returned to oppose the development, reiterating similar concerns. Katy Miles said placing a 24-hour facility so close to homeowners would set a new precedent in the city, and expressed concerns that proposed privacy screening measures would block sights but not sounds that could disturb residents at night. "I have looked up every 24-hour business in Wentzville and none of them backs up to residential homes," she said. Drew Weber, a lawyer from Hamilton Weber LLC, presented the site plan changes on behalf of Crunch Fitness. "The building is located as far to the south as possible on this property as part of the way to mitigate the impacts on residential subdivisions to the north," he said, adding that the facility's proposed parking was reduced to 223 spaces. Weber said the site's access points, located on Wentzville Parkway and Crystal Center Drive, will not increase traffic into the nearby neighborhood and that the northern buffer that backs up to the residential area was adjusted to include 20-foot landscaping with a 6-foot-tall fence on top of a 4-foot-tall landscaping buffer. Trees that will grow to at least 10 feet or higher will be planted behind the fence. Weber said Crunch Fitness representatives met with residents in June to address concerns and update the plan. Changes made were based on comments from residents, city staff and board members. ADVERTISING Alderman Linda Roth (Ward 1) questioned the average number of members who enter the facility from 11 p.m.-5 a.m. "That would all depend on the type of the area and location," developer Lance Cooper said. "It's hard to say. It's significantly lower at night." "I would think that would be part of the business plan if you're staying open 24 hours," Roth said. "That's one of the big complaints from the residents in the area." Roth motioned to prohibit parking on the north side of the property near the homes between 11 p.m.-5 a.m. The motion passed 4-2, with aldermen Chantel Summers (Ward 1) and Frank Martel (Ward 2) voting against. Alderman Michael Hays (Ward 3) moved to raise the fence buffer from 6 feet to 8 feet to help separate the residents from the business. The motion was unanimously approved. Alderman Michael Lovell (Ward 3) expressed concern about placing a 24-hour facility near residents, noting that only gas stations in the area have been constructed near residential areas. He said the building doesn't fit the area because it has no windows. "There's zero windows along the parkway," he said. "I couldn't identify one other building like that. I really don't think it's compatible." The amended site plan was approved 5-1, with Lovell voting against the project.

Published Date: September 5, 2026, 7:10 PM EDT A new Crunch Fitness location is coming to San Antonio's rapidly growing Far West Side, with a 40,131-square-foot fitness center planned near Empresario Drive and Potranco Road in the Dove Creek area. According to Zabalist, the new construction build is scheduled to be completed by the end of next summer. The project carries an estimated construction value of $1.5 million, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. The scope calls for the interior finish-out of a new building into a fitness center, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. SA Dove Creek Highlands Ltd. is listed as the property owner of record, while JPlus Architects Inc. is the design firm of record. Jeffrey A. Gutknecht, a registered accessibility specialist, is also listed on the project. Undefeated Tribe Operating Company LLC, a Crunch Fitness franchisee, will operate the location. According to local realtor John Fatheringham, signage is already posted at the site announcing the coming facility. Founded in 2018, Undefeated Tribe operates more than 60 Crunch locations in five states, and has several gyms currently in development in Texas. Crunch Fitness preparing to open in Willowbrook and Naperville. Two plazas are getting new fitness additions. The Crunch Fitness team is putting the finishing touches on two new locations coming to 820 Plainfield Road in Willowbrook and 704 Route 59 in Naperville. This follows the company's large expansion strategy for this year. COO of JEM Wellness Brands Amber Martinez told What Now Chicago the Naperville and Willowbrook locations will debut around Oct. 1 or later. JEM Wellness Brands manages multiple Crunch Fitness gyms, along with European Wax Center and Massage Envy locations. Crunch Fitness itself has been operating since 1989, now with more than 600 locations across the U.S. Right now, there are around 10 in the Chicago area. Locations offer group fitness classes that are cardio-based, a full gym with weights and personal trainers. Cardio machines include traditional treadmills and ellipticals. The company encourages all kinds of workout intensities and styles. The Willowbrook fitness studio is coming to the north side of Plainfield Road, next to Pete's Market. An Ulta Beauty is also at the building, and is in the same plaza as Lumes Brunch Cafe. This is near the Kingery Highway intersection. Moving to Naperville, Crunch Fitness will be on the east side of Route 59, close to the CVS at the N Aurora Road intersection.
