Requirements
  • Have 8+ years of experience in program management, technical program management, product operations, product safety, quality assurance, regulatory operations, incident management, healthcare operations, or another complex, high-accountability operational field.
  • Be technically and analytically fluent enough to reason about data flows, telemetry, logs, dashboards, access controls, case systems, automation, and failure modes, even without writing production code.
  • Have a track record of taking complex, ambiguous, and unstructured work from problem framing through product launch, operational readiness, and scaled operation.
  • Create clarity across many moving pieces while retaining focus on key decisions, risks, and dependencies.
  • Exercise sound judgment in high-severity or sensitive situations and make practical, risk-based decisions with incomplete information.
  • Build trust and drive alignment across teams without direct authority while maintaining clear ownership, accountability, and escalation paths.
  • Communicate clearly and directly with technical, operational, legal, policy, and executive audiences, particularly when tradeoffs are sensitive or evidence is incomplete.
  • Be practical and willing to build and run the first version of a workflow, learn from real cases, and improve the system over time.
  • Operate calmly in a fast-moving environment, learn new domains quickly, and adjust priorities without losing rigor or follow-through.
Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic operational builds for device-safety and product-quality priorities from problem statement through implementation, including scope, owners, milestones, risks, success measures, and execution cadence.
  • Define intake, severity criteria, decision rights, evidence requirements, escalation paths, response standards, closure criteria, and post-incident learning for high-risk cases.
  • Translate product, engineering, quality, regulatory, legal, privacy, policy, support, and operational requirements into practical workflows, clear ownership, playbooks, and measurable operating standards.
  • Build launch-readiness plans, training, quality controls, reporting, monitoring, and early-life response mechanisms.
  • Coordinate across Product, Hardware and Software Engineering, Product Safety, Product Quality, Legal, Privacy, Product Policy, Support, Logistics, vendors, and User Safety & Risk Operations to resolve dependencies and keep critical work moving.
  • Partner with fraud, privacy, legal, and other specialized teams when device-related issues require their expertise.
  • Use operational data, dashboards, customer signals, product telemetry, case-management systems, artificial intelligence tools, and qualitative evidence to investigate issues, measure performance, identify patterns, and improve workflows.
  • Drive critical escalations and cross-functional decisions to closure with clear context, accountable owners, documented decisions, and durable follow-through.
  • Create mechanisms including roadmaps, decision logs, risk registers, operating reviews, status updates, and executive communication.
  • Identify where artificial intelligence tools, automation, lightweight systems, or simpler workflows can improve speed, consistency, investigation, and quality while preserving appropriate human judgment.
  • Stand up priority workflows, operate them through launch and stabilization, and transition mature capabilities into durable homes across User Safety & Risk Operations and partner teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with consumer hardware, connected devices, medical devices, healthcare technology, aerospace, robotics, mobility, wearables, or another technically complex or regulated physical product.
  • Experience with device launches, product quality, field incidents, safety-sensitive customer escalations, repairs, warranty, returns, reverse logistics, or privacy-sensitive sensor and diagnostic data.
  • A technical degree or equivalent experience partnering closely with hardware, software, data, or systems engineering teams.
  • Experience with vendor operations, quality-assurance programs, regulated-product operations, incident response, workflow automation, or artificial-intelligence-assisted operations.

OpenAI acquires InstantDB team to bolster AI agent infrastructure

OpenAI has acquired the team behind InstantDB, a real-time database platform that served over 17,000 users and powered 400,000 applications. No financial terms were disclosed for the deal, announced on 22 August. InstantDB, which went through Y Combinator in 2022, offered developers a Backend-as-a-Service product handling real-time data synchronisation. The platform processed roughly 2.5 billion transactions across its lifetime. Instant Cloud is being phased out, with new signups halted. Existing subscribers can claim refunds for billing after 31 July 2026. Cloud-hosted applications will continue running until 31 August 2027. The open-source codebase will remain available for self-hosting. The acquisition brings backend infrastructure expertise to OpenAI as it develops agent-based workflows requiring persistent state management and real-time data handling capabilities.

ChatGPT gains iMessage control, raising Apple privacy concerns

OpenAI has enabled ChatGPT to control Apple's iMessage service, a development that could spark privacy concerns. The new feature, rolled out on Thursday, allows the AI assistant to interact with the messaging platform. The integration raises questions about data handling and user privacy, particularly given Apple's strong emphasis on protecting customer information. No specific privacy measures or safeguards accompanying the feature were detailed in the announcement. The move represents ChatGPT's expanding capabilities in controlling core smartphone functions, though the implications for Apple's privacy-focused ecosystem remain unclear.

OpenAI previews Private Safety Processing to monitor AI misuse without retaining customer data

OpenAI has introduced Private Safety Processing, a new automated system that monitors for AI misuse whilst retaining no customer data. The service analyses multiple conversations for signs of abuse without human review, targeting bad actors who spread malicious requests across sessions to avoid detection. The move appears designed to compete with Anthropic, whose 30-day data retention policy for certain models has concerned enterprises handling sensitive information. OpenAI's system expands on Zero Data Retention protocols, which both companies largely follow. When triggered, the system sends a narrowly defined signal to OpenAI about specific suspicious activity. The company can then contact customers to discuss potential enforcement actions. Both AI firms are competing intensely for market share. Anthropic's annualised revenue reportedly reached $65 billion, whilst investors suggest it could IPO at $2 trillion valuation. OpenAI is also preparing for an IPO.

Replit launches Free Mode powered by OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Luna after 80% price cut

Replit has launched Free Mode, a new feature powered by OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Luna model, following an 80% price cut on the model. The feature is available to subscribers paying $20 monthly for Core tier or $100 for Pro, allowing users to perform simpler tasks without depleting their AI token budgets. Free Mode automatically switches to more sophisticated models when needed, then reverts to Luna. The launch reflects broader industry trends of reducing AI costs as enterprises scrutinise return on investment and face competition from cheaper Chinese models. Replit president Michele Catasta said the partnership with OpenAI will yield additional joint product launches. OpenAI's Thibault Sottiaux noted the price reductions stem from operational efficiencies rather than increased computing capacity. Both companies aim to make powerful AI models accessible to users without technical backgrounds.
