Requirements
  • The candidate must be a graduate of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technology or a surgical technology training program in the United States Army, Navy, or Air Force.
  • The candidate must obtain an accredited surgical technologist certification credential within 12 months after successfully completing a surgical technology program and maintain certification for continued employment as a surgical technologist.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
  • The candidate must be able to access the entire facility and lift or transport patients, supplies, and equipment.
  • The candidate must demonstrate manual dexterity, hearing acuity, and verbal ability.
  • The candidate must be able to stand for long periods and walk, lift, bend, and stoop for much of the workday.
  • The candidate must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods.
  • The candidate must be able to work around blood and body fluids, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases.
  • The candidate must participate in creating a safety culture by optimizing safety.
  • The candidate must deal with frustration and stress appropriately.
  • The candidate must communicate effectively and professionally with staff, physicians, and the shift supervisor.
  • The candidate must work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as needed.
  • The candidate must be available for call rotation as needed.
  • The candidate must communicate effectively with a wide range of age groups and ethnic, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • The candidate must demonstrate effective organizational skills and the ability to prioritize accurately and quickly.
  • The candidate must have computer skills relevant to the service provided.
Responsibilities
  • The role maintains the clinical and professional competency levels required for age-specific populations, including all aspects of surgical technology in the perioperative care process.
  • The role does not perform first-assistant activities, including independent tissue manipulation or handling, cutting, ligating, or dissecting tissue, providing hemostasis, or suturing.
