About the company

Snowflake runs a cloud platform where businesses store and analyze data, build AI tools, and share information under common access controls. Its platform separates stored data from computing resources, letting teams run different workloads without maintaining database servers. Analysts query business records with SQL, while developers use Python and other languages to build applications and train models against the same data; Cortex connects AI models to company records so teams build assistants and automate analysis. Customers pay for storage and computing usage across Amazon, Microsoft, and Google infrastructure. Snowflake was founded in 2012 and has its headquarters in Menlo Park, California.

What believers are saying

  • Growth supports a larger business: Snowflake product revenue rose 37% to $1.49 billion in the July 2026 quarter.
  • Employees buy discounted stock: eligible Snowflake staff pay 15% below the lower starting or ending six-month price.
  • Existing customers spend more: Snowflake reported 126% revenue retention in September 2026, after contractions and lost customers.

What critics are saying

  • Debt has a deadline: Snowflake priced $3.75 billion of notes in September 2026, maturing in 2029 and 2031.
  • Remote work is limited: Snowflake requires most employees to work from physical offices despite its globally distributed branding.
  • Suppliers also compete: AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud host Snowflake while selling rival data platforms.

What makes Snowflake unique

  • Different engineering foundations: Snowflake built a cloud-native SQL engine; Databricks extends Spark with proprietary Photon execution.
  • Data sellers keep control: Snowflake Marketplace lets them charge for live tables without distributing copied files.
  • Software vendors enter customers' accounts: Snowflake Native Apps install business logic beside governed data instead of hosting it separately.

Jade Global launches JadeOrbit OmniLens AI, a Snowflake cost and risk app, on Snowflake Marketplace

Jade Global has launched JadeOrbit OmniLens AI on Snowflake Marketplace, a Snowflake Native App that helps customers monitor Snowflake cost, performance, and governance risk. Users can act on AI-generated recommendations inside their own account. The app runs 45 automated health checks and tracks each finding's cumulative cost impact. It uses Snowflake Cortex for insights and query optimisation, and gives a continuously updated view rather than a snapshot. Customers can also forecast cost and AI usage, get proactive alerts, and generate copy-ready remediation SQL without moving data outside Snowflake. "Snowflake customers have the data to control cloud spend and governance risk — what they lack is time to dig through several consoles to find it," said Amit Deshpande, vice president and head of data and integration at Jade Global.

Optimove launches Zero Copy Customer Lists to build audiences without data leaving Snowflake

Optimove, the maker of Positionless Marketing, has launched Zero Copy Customer Lists, which lets brands build audiences from data in their own Snowflake environment without copying or uploading it. Marketers connect Optimove to Snowflake once, then define a list with a SQL query. The query runs in the brand's warehouse, once or on a schedule, and returns only Customer IDs. Data such as credit scores or Know Your Customer (KYC) status stays in place. "The answer was never going to be another pipeline. It was going to be leaving the data alone," said Pini Yakuel, chief executive officer of Optimove. The feature is in open beta and is rolling out to customers in stages. Optimove reached Snowflake Elite Partner status in August 2026.

Snowflake stock has fallen 30.8% on average in market shocks, double the S&P 500's drop

Snowflake (SNOW) stock returned 131.9% over the six months to October 23, 2026, against 7.0% for the S&P 500. It closed that day 11.8% below its October 9 high. In five market shocks since its September 2020 listing, the stock fell 30.8% on average, versus 13.4% for the index. Its worst fall was 66% in 2022; it needed 49.9 months to recover. The median recovery time was 2.3 months. Revenue for the twelve months to July 31, 2026 was $5.4 billion, up 32.0%. Operating loss narrowed to 22.8% of revenue from 37.4%, and free cash flow rose to $1.19 billion from $734 million. Debt is rising, however. Snowflake priced $3.75 billion of zero-interest convertible notes on September 29, against $2.76 billion of debt at the end of July. It also cut its fiscal 2027 product gross margin forecast to 74% from 75%, as lower-margin AI work grows.

Benchling launches Direct Data Share for two-way, near real-time sync with Snowflake

Benchling has launched Direct Data Share, a feature that keeps scientific data continuously synced between its platform and a customer's Snowflake environment. It is now in public beta for Benchling customers. Experimental data from Benchling lands in Snowflake as ready-to-query tables, refreshed in minutes. Instrument, assay, computational, and third-party data in Snowflake can flow back into Benchling. IT teams need only a one-time setup, with no custom export pipeline to build or maintain. Admins control who can start syncs and manage connections. "The time it takes to sync data from one source to another can't be the choke point for effective decision making," said Derek Halliday, Benchling's head of product. The feature builds on Benchling's AI Connectors, launched earlier this year.

Snowflake stock is up 169% in six months, but AI sales cut margins to 74%

Snowflake's stock has returned 169% over the past six months, against 14.0% for the S&P 500. But on its September 2, 2026 earnings call, executives said AI sales earn less than the rest of its products. The company cut its fiscal 2027 adjusted product gross margin forecast to 74% from 75%, citing a growing share of lower-margin AI workloads. Product revenue grew 37% year over year in fiscal Q2 2027, with AI contributing about half of the acceleration. Product revenue makes up 95% of total sales. Snowflake trades at 23.2 times sales, against 3.1 for the S&P 500, and its net margin is negative 20.1%. Management raised its adjusted operating margin forecast to 14.5% from 13.5% and still expects a GAAP profit in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2028.
