Requirements
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
  • Eligibility for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for specialists.
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association.
  • Active admitting privileges at the Dartmouth General Hospital site through the Nova Scotia Health Credentialing Committee.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct inpatient care for patients admitted to the Dartmouth General Hospital Hospitalist Service.
  • Provide comprehensive inpatient clinical care in accordance with the Canadian Society of Hospital Medicine’s Core Competencies in Hospital Medicine.
  • Provide most responsible physician coverage for admitted patients and ensure laboratory, imaging, consultation, and other reports are received and reviewed daily.
  • Participate equitably in after-hours call coverage.
  • Participate in daily patient-flow discussions.
  • Apply the Home First Philosophy of Nova Scotia Health to efficient discharge planning, including discussion of expected length of stay with patients and caregivers at admission.
  • Participate in quality-improvement, operational, and research initiatives.
  • Attend site-based physician meetings as outlined by the Central Zone Department Head of Hospital Medicine and site Hospitalist Leads.
  • Maintain clinical competence and commitment to high-quality care.
  • Coordinate care with the inter-professional team, including regular interdisciplinary team rounds.
  • Participate in weekend rounds proportional to weekday work.
  • Participate in after-hours call, typically two to four shifts per month for full-time physicians.

  • Membership in the Society of Hospital Medicine, Canadian Chapter.
  • An academic teaching appointment with Dalhousie University.
