Important Information
FINRA’s Code of Conduct imposes restrictions on employees’ investments and requires financial disclosures that are uniquely related to our role as a securities regulator. FINRA employees are required to disclose to FINRA all brokerage accounts that they maintain, and those in which they control trading or have a financial interest (including any trust account of which they are a trustee or beneficiary and all accounts of a spouse, domestic partner or minor child who lives with the employee) and to authorize their broker-dealers to provide FINRA with duplicate statements for all of those accounts. All of those accounts are subject to the Code’s investment and securities account restrictions, and new employees must comply with those investment restrictions—including disposing of any security issued by a company on FINRA’s Prohibited Company List or obtaining a written waiver from their Executive Vice President—by the date they begin employment with FINRA. Employees may only maintain securities accounts that must be disclosed to FINRA at one or more securities firms that provide an electronic feed (e-feed) of data to FINRA, and must move securities accounts from other securities firms to a firm that provides an e-feed within three months of beginning employment.
You can read more about these restrictions here.
As standard practice, employees must also execute FINRA’s Employee Confidentiality and Invention Assignment Agreement without qualification or modification and comply with the company’s policy on nepotism.

FINRA delays scheduled fee increases for member firms for two years. Last Modified on Oct 16, 2026 Fee increases that had been scheduled by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority for its member firms will be delayed for two years, AdvisorHub reported. The decision means FINRA will be keeping its 2026 rates in place through 2029., saving the industry an estimated $718 million, or a median $5,199 per member. The hikes had been planned for 2027 and 2028. FINRA also filed a separate rule proposal to set its trading activity fee to zero for transactions between October 1 and December 31. This would result in an estimated $160 million in savings. The two rule proposals were slated to become effective after FINRA filed them with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC does not have to approve the proposals but can suspended them for 60 days. The fee increases were initially scheduled two years ago, but FINRA said they can now be put on hold because the authority's operating revenuei increased well beyond projections due to higher average daily trading volume, higher member revenue and the already implemented portion of fee increases. Another factor in the move, FINRA said, was that its own expenses have been reduced by about 10% this year due to an extensive reorganization that included the authority consolidating its enforcement, member supervision and market oversight functions into one department. FINRA said it will be up to member firms to decide whether to pass on any of their savings to their customers, adding,"Whether their customers accrue any of those savings depends on individual firm practices and competitive conditions.". Under the original fee hike plan, FINRA estimated that total fees would increase at a compound annual growth rate of 5.3% and would be phased in gradually over a five-year period beginning on January 1, 2025, with full implementation of all proposed fee changes by 2029 to eventually boost FINRA's revenue from fees to $450 million a year. The authority said the increase is needed partly because its expenses have gone up significantly due to rising technology costs related to capital investments seeking long-term efficiency gains for both FINRA and the industry. But earlier this year, FINRA's Board of Governors approved a rebate of 2025 regulatory fees to be distributed to eligible member firms. The rebate, amounting to a total of $100 million, was due to the receipt of higher-than-anticipated fees in 2025. Had the remaining fee increases taken effect through January 2029, FINRA said its revenues would continue to exceed its expenses, "resulting in excess reserve levels beyond those targeted under" under its Financial Guiding Principles, which call for it to "prudently manage" its money. The authority said delaying the hikes "would reduce the near-term fee burden on members without significantly altering the long-term fee structure or the equitable allocation of fees established in the 2024 fee filing." FINRA launches enhanced Investor Education and protection tools to help research markets and recognize fraud. Tools include the new Market Data and Investments Explorer, and updated Risk and Scam Meters. WASHINGTON - In a continuing effort to empower investors with the tools and knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions and avoid fraud, FINRA announced today the launch of the Market Data and Investments Explorer, as well as enhanced Risk and Scam Meters. The Market Data and Investments Explorer is an online tool that integrates FINRA investor education materials alongside market, product and company data. The enhanced Risk and Scam Meters are designed to help investors recognize fraud risks and protect themselves from scams. "Investors are flooded with financial information every day, and it can be difficult to know what to trust," said Christine Kieffer, Senior Vice President, Investor Education at FINRA and President of the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. "These tools cut through the noise by giving investors trusted information, practical insights and the confidence to make more informed financial decisions." Market Data and Investments Explorer FINRA's Market Data and Investments Explorer is a free resource to assist retail investors with market and investment research. The Market Data and Investments Explorer includes: * market indexes and other information about current market conditions; * detailed market data on exchange-traded and over-the-counter (OTC) equities, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and mutual funds; and * a detailed profile for every exchange-listed company, including company description, stock price, valuation, profitability, recent news, SEC filings and more. Building on the foundation of FINRA's now-retired Market Data Center, the Market Data and Investments Explorer offers a more comprehensive experience, bringing together market, product and company data with relevant FINRA investor education resources to help investors better understand market data and investing terms. Risk and Scam Meters The Risk and Scam Meters also have been redesigned to provide investors with interactive, personalized educational experiences. The Risk Meter helps users assess their potential fraud vulnerabilities. Users answer 10 questions about their circumstances and behaviors, and the tool generates a personalized fraud vulnerability rating along with practical tips to strengthen their defenses against fraud. The Scam Meter builds scam awareness through five real-world scenarios. Users select how they would respond in each situation and receive immediate feedback highlighting common scam tactics and warning signs. At the conclusion of the exercise, users receive a red-flag awareness score along with insights into where their scam awareness is strongest and where additional vigilance may be beneficial. FINRA ID.me verification deadline approaches. September 11, 2026 What happened? The FINRA Entitlement Platform began rolling out ID.me verification for investment advisers back in May, and the final wave is coming to a close in September. The next wave for new and existing accounts for broker-dealers will begin on September 28, 2026. ID.me is certified to federal standards for identity verification, and the change will enhance security for FINRA's systems. Super Account Administrators are the point of contact. Upon selection, the administrator will receive a list of in-scope accounts and a list of entitlements (account privileges) that require identity verification. To verify, follow FINRA's step-by-step guide, which includes the steps for gathering required documents, verifying account information, reviewing permissions for employees and service providers, and creating an ID.me account. What does this mean for me? All investment advisers that are current users of FINRA's platform should have been contacted regarding ID.me verification. If you have not completed this process, do so immediately. Maintaining access for you and your service providers depends on completing this process. If you rely on service providers, such as Fairview, to access your FINRA platform and complete work on your behalf, know that new access must be established through ID.me verification to continue that work.
