About the job

Requirements
  • Strong software engineering skills in Python and at least one systems language such as Rust, C++, or Go.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including consistency, coordination, consensus, failure modes, and recovery.
  • Ability to reason quantitatively about throughput, latency, and resource costs across compute, memory, storage, and network.
  • Experience debugging complex failures across many hosts and services, including failures that cannot be reproduced locally.
  • Strong written communication, including design documents and incident writeups.
  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; education or experience must demonstrate a field relevant to the role.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and operate distributed systems that run reinforcement learning at scale across training, sampling, and environment execution.
  • Find and remove current system bottlenecks, including those involving scheduling, data movement, storage, networking, or coordination.
  • Build fault tolerance into every layer through failure detection, isolation, and recovery that keep long-running jobs progressing without human intervention.
  • Design resource management and autoscaling so compute follows shifting run demands.
  • Build observability to determine what a run is doing and why it slowed down, stalled, or produced unexpected results.
  • Build automation to detect and remediate common problems, and design interfaces that let engineers and automated tools operate runs safely.
  • Work with researchers and performance engineers to ensure systems changes preserve training correctness and do not introduce subtle nondeterminism.
  • Remove classes of failure at their source through incident review, testing, and redesign, and write clear design documents.
  • Design a scheduler that places training, sampling, and environment work across a heterogeneous cluster while respecting network topology and failure domains.
  • Build failure detection and recovery that lets long-running jobs survive host and network failures with minimal lost work.
  • Scale environment execution substantially without increasing tail latency for the training step.
  • Design autoscaling policies that rebalance compute across components as a run’s bottleneck shifts.
  • Build diagnostics that explain why a run’s throughput dropped and propose a fix.
  • Trace rare data corruption across services to a race condition in a recovery path, then redesign the path to prevent recurrence of that class of bug.
  • Design an operational interface for a run so automated tools can safely diagnose and adjust it under human oversight.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience running machine learning training or inference infrastructure at scale.
  • Experience across several stack layers, such as scheduling, storage, networking, and orchestration.
  • Experience building schedulers, autoscalers, or resource management systems.
  • Experience with container orchestration such as Kubernetes, and with sandboxed or virtualized code execution at scale.
  • Experience with high-performance networking, RDMA, or collective communication libraries.
  • Experience building observability or automated remediation for large fleets.
  • Experience with asynchronous Python frameworks such as Trio or asyncio.
  • Familiarity with reinforcement learning or large language model training workloads.

About the company

Anthropic builds the Claude family of AI models and sells them to businesses, software developers, and consumers, with research on making AI safe and understandable at the center of its work. In 2024 it introduced the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside apps and data that OpenAI and Google adopted the next year. People use the Claude app to write and analyze files, programmers hand coding tasks to Claude Code, and companies build Claude into their own products through its API. Anthropic earns money from subscriptions, business plans, and usage-based API fees. Siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei founded Anthropic in 2021 with other former OpenAI employees, and it is based in San Francisco.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Sales are multiplying: Anthropic's yearly revenue pace topped $65 billion in July 2026, over sevenfold since December 2025.
  • IPO plans advanced: October 2026 reports describe investor meetings and a mid-November listing target; staff shares face lockups.
  • Lower office minimum: 627 of 646 Anthropic job posts in October 2026 require at least 25% office time.

What critics are saying

  • Job security rides on growth: Anthropic's IPO prospectus lists $518 billion in cloud and computing bills due in coming years.
  • Defense work stays off-limits: in September 2026, appeals judges voted 2-1 to let the Pentagon keep blacklisting Anthropic.
  • Growth is priced in: Anthropic's valuation reached $965 billion in May 2026, up from $380 billion in February.

What makes Anthropic unique

  • Investors don't control its board alone: Anthropic's independent Long-Term Benefit Trust elects a growing number of directors.
  • It isn't tied to one chipmaker: Claude runs on Nvidia GPUs plus custom AI chips designed by Google and Amazon.
  • It holds back its riskiest model: Claude Mythos 5.1, launched September 2026, goes only to vetted cyberdefenders and life scientists.

Bloomberg Law brings court dockets and litigation intelligence into Claude

Bloomberg Law has launched a connector that lets legal professionals use its federal and state court dockets data and litigation intelligence inside Claude, the AI tool. Users can search docket details and filing information, monitor matters with alerts and tracks, and surface litigation insights without running a separate search on the Bloomberg Law platform. The connector uses Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard that links AI applications with external data and tools. "The value of an AI tool depends on the quality of the information it draws on," said Aaron Pierce, head of Bloomberg Law. He said the link helps lawyers review and compare filings, understand litigation trends, and spot opportunities in one workflow. The company says the move reflects its aim to meet legal professionals where they work, including in third-party tools.

Eisman warns AI giants have "no moats" as Morningstar sees $57B compute cost edge

Investor Steve Eisman, known from "The Big Short," says the AI boom depends on the health of OpenAI and Anthropic. He told CNBC that cheaper rival models could force the two labs to cut prices, threatening their heavy spending on computing power and exposing chipmakers and cloud providers. Morningstar disagrees. It estimates that bulk, multiyear deals could secure Nvidia B200 capacity at $2.25 per GPU-hour, against a $16.11 hyperscaler list price. For a gigawatt of computing power, that is roughly $9 billion a year instead of $66 billion, an illustrative $57 billion saving. Customers are shopping around, though. Anthropic's share of spending through Vercel's AI Gateway fell to 44% in September from 64% a month earlier. Anthropic's IPO filing showed $11.56 billion in second-quarter revenue and $974 million in operating profit.

SentinelOne adds Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5.1 to Wayfinder to prioritise exploitable AI threats

SentinelOne (NYSE: S) will add Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5.1 to its Wayfinder Frontier AI Services, the company announced today. The service helps customers find vulnerabilities in their code and operations, and checks which ones attackers can exploit. Wayfinder pairs human security experts with frontier models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and other labs. The team validates findings and gives customers a prioritised list of fixes, so they can act on real risks rather than an unfiltered backlog. SentinelOne says October brought a sharp rise in AI-fuelled vulnerabilities and attacks, including PHP2SHELL, LiteLLM, and eMudhra. "Adding Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5.1 will help our analysts work at the pace of today's threats," said Steve Stone, chief customer officer.

Warren presses Anthropic on AI risks ahead of IPO after $16.3B first-half revenue

Senator Elizabeth Warren is pressing Anthropic on the safety of its technology ahead of the company's planned initial public offering (IPO). In a Wednesday letter to chief executive officer Dario Amodei, she cited Anthropic's own warnings that advanced AI could pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity." She asked how it plans to curb risks such as loss of control, economic disruption, and misuse for cyberattacks and bioterrorism, and requested answers by November 3. Anthropic filed for an IPO with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, and plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. It reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026, up 1,300% year over year, and a net loss of nearly $81 billion. Warren warned that the company's size and share-price swings could affect broader markets.

Anthropic's IPO filing reveals 85% gross margin despite $80B net loss

Anthropic's IPO filing shows an 85% gross profit margin on running its existing AI models, a figure Silicon Valley prizes above most others. The Information called it "a reality check" for sceptics who doubted that pay-as-you-go pricing could be profitable. The company still reported a headline net loss of $80 billion. Its margin also excludes the cost of training new models. Even so, 85% tops Meta's ad business at roughly 81-82% and analysts' estimates for Google Search ads at 75-80%. The iPhone sits in the mid-40s. The figure may also bode well for rival OpenAI, which runs a similar model. It is considered less efficient, partly because of its large base of non-paying users.
