  • The individual must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently lift or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • The role requires frequent bending, keying, reaching, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; constant hearing, seeing, speaking, and standing; occasional kneeling and overhead reaching; and no climbing.
  • The individual must comply with applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements and other local, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Provide care in a clinic environment under the supervision of a physician or mid-level provider.
  • Obtain and enter height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, allergies, medication reconciliation, medical history, surgical history, family history, and social history into the electronic health record before provider examination.
  • Complete PHQ-2 screening and add PHQ-9 screening when needed.
  • Administer oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal medications as directed, and observe patients for reactions according to protocol.
  • Administer outstanding or overdue immunizations, document declinations or valid contraindications, and scan related forms into the chart.
  • Perform electrocardiograms as directed.
  • Communicate laboratory, radiology, and other test results to patients within one to two business days after provider review and release.
  • Receive home health and durable medical equipment orders, route them to the provider for review, and arrange fulfillment when applicable.
  • Instruct patients and family members regarding treatments, educational materials, and follow-up care.
  • Manage and return phone calls, telephone encounters, and faxes within one to two business days.
  • Submit medication prior authorizations, track them, and provide supporting documentation until a denial or determination is confirmed.
  • Scan external laboratory, radiology, magnetic resonance imaging, and other health information into the electronic health record and document results according to policy.
  • Ensure required clinic forms and consents are completed during visits.
  • Complete same-day documentation of all care provided.
  • Complete, scan, and return patient paperwork such as unemployment, workers' compensation, Family and Medical Leave Act, and short-term disability forms within one to two business days.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of examination rooms, procedure rooms, and workspaces.
  • Replenish room supplies and linens weekly and as needed, and ensure supplies are current and unexpired.
  • Dispose of contaminated and disposable items, including biohazardous materials and sharps, according to policy.
  • Handle and store medications properly and report wasted or expired medications to the site supervisor.
  • Adhere to quality-assurance compliance and documentation standards.
  • Repeat blood pressure manually for readings greater than 140/90 and document appropriately.
  • Perform annual depression screening for patients over 18 years old.
  • Provide patient education regarding hypertension, remote patient monitoring enrollment, abnormal body mass index, smoking cessation, immunizations, nutrition, and physical activity.
  • Address clinical decision-support-system alerts and resolve all overdue alerts at each visit.
  • Manage provider referrals from initiation through pending and addressed or closed status.
  • Schedule or arrange outside tests, examinations, and specialty office visits.
  • Obtain outside examination and test results or consultation notes and upload them to the patient chart when appropriate.
  • Maintain professional appearance and dress standards.
  • Interact with patients, clients, guests, and coworkers using the Service Excellence model.
  • Complete required annual training, mandatory in-services, and relevant educational programs.
  • Maintain compliance with health-center operating standards, business conduct policies, and applicable civil rights, age-discrimination, disability, and other regulations.
  • Perform light housekeeping, sterilize instruments, label and record data, and inventory clinic, vaccine, medication, and medication-sample supplies.
  • Sort and distribute fax documents and fill in for absent employees when necessary.
  • Communicate workplace hazards to peers and management and perform other assigned duties.
