About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in technical product development, innovation, or research and development, ideally in food, fast-moving consumer goods, pet, or another regulated consumer category, or equivalent depth of experience.
  • A proven track record of taking physical products from concept through formulation, specification, testing, manufacturing trials, and launch.
  • Strong experience working with third-party manufacturers and suppliers to develop formulations, troubleshoot technical issues, and bring products into production.
  • Experience across food and non-food products is a plus, as is exposure to the pet category.
  • Understand what makes a product safe, stable, technically viable, and fit for purpose; be comfortable examining details, challenging decisions, and making evidence-based decisions.
  • Translate customer and brand needs into products with a clear reason to exist, balancing proposition, quality, technical feasibility, and customer value.
  • Define and interpret sensory, palatability, stability, shelf-life, analytical, and nutritional testing, and change course when evidence requires it.
  • Maintain high standards for formulations, specifications, claims, documentation, and manufacturing, and avoid approving products believed to be unsuitable.
  • Understand trade-offs between cost, quality, technical performance, and customer value, and make pragmatic decisions without compromising product integrity.
  • Be ambitious, results-driven, and continuously seek ways to improve products and processes.
  • Be organised and able to manage multiple workstreams, partners, and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Translate technical complexity into clear decisions and influence effectively across teams and seniority levels.
  • Have experience managing or mentoring at least one person.
  • Make sound decisions with imperfect information and quickly close knowledge gaps.
  • Care deeply about the category and believe in the products and their potential impact on pets and their owners.
  • Be within a comfortable commuting distance to London for the London office option.
  • Have the right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Additional Products category end-to-end, identifying opportunities, shaping concepts, delivering launches, and deciding which products remain, grow, or are discontinued.
  • Own product lines across wellness, gifting, food, and non-food, combining customer insight with execution and ensuring each product has a clear reason to exist.
  • Shape the long-term roadmap for additional products and gifting across both brands.
  • Shape the product pipeline and prioritize development based on customer, market, and commercial opportunity.
  • Identify and develop new product opportunities using market, customer, and competitor insight.
  • Lead reformulations and decide when products no longer deliver against their role or potential.
  • Partner with third-party manufacturers and suppliers to identify, develop, and bring new opportunities to market.
  • Own products from concept and recipe through specification, testing, launch, and post-launch performance.
  • Develop food and non-food products, ensuring ranges remain true to their briefs and have a clear reason to exist.
  • Develop and sign off recipes, specifications, and nutritional targets with manufacturing teams.
  • Lead factory and production-line trials, resolve technical issues, and ensure products are ready for scale-up and launch.
  • Define and interpret testing required to prove product performance, including palatability, stability and shelf-life, sensory, and analytical testing, and use evidence to drive decisions.
  • Own claim substantiation end-to-end, ensuring claims have robust evidence and removing claims that cannot be substantiated.
  • Lead product launches, equip customer-facing teams for go-to-market, and conduct post-launch reviews to identify learnings and improvements.
  • Maintain product briefs, specifications, and supporting documentation to a high standard.
  • Work with the Projects team to improve ways of working and build a faster, stronger, and more effective product pipeline.
  • Manage the additional products team to deliver agreed roadmaps on time and in full.
  • Onboard and develop the direct report, while improving the quality of team inputs and outputs.
  • Collaborate with and influence stakeholders across senior leadership, marketing, procurement, supply chain, operations, customer relationship management, and brand.
  • Work with external partners to ensure clear accountability and high delivery standards.
  • Collaborate with brand, data, commercial, and operations teams to determine selling prices, forecasts, positioning, and branding, and identify required capital investment.
  • Support procurement and commercial teams with cost analysis and margin delivery.
  • Ensure products comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and internal standards, including claim substantiation.
  • Lead resolution of compliance issues or product complaints involving third parties.
  • Work three days per week in the West London office (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and two days from a location of choice for the London-based option.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience across food and non-food products.
  • Exposure to the pet category.
  • Experience in food, fast-moving consumer goods, pet, or another regulated consumer category.
