About the job

Requirements
  • A background in electrical engineering, power systems, or a related field, through formal qualifications or strong practical experience.
  • Experience across electrical infrastructure, energy, utilities, distributed energy, EV charging, or another relevant sector.
  • A solid understanding of high-voltage and low-voltage systems, power distribution, load profiles, grid connections, and grid integration.
  • Practical experience with grid analysis or modelling, and confidence interpreting network data, tariffs, and technical and financial results.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships, bring different stakeholders together, and explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • A pragmatic, curious approach, comfort with ambiguity, willingness to pursue needed information, and ability to keep work moving.
Responsibilities
  • Analyse complex grid problems, bring the right people and information together, and find practical and innovative solutions.
  • Understand charging demand, model load, investigate network constraints and tariffs, explore storage and grid services, and help shape customer solutions for real sites.
  • Support customers, EDBs, and DNSPs in navigating grid connections, bringing together technical inputs, and progressing applications.
  • Work across Sales, R&D, Engineering, and the Solutions and Grids team to solve cross-functional questions.
  • Develop better models, tools, network playbooks, and ways to apply lessons from one project to future projects.

About the company

Kwetta designs and builds high-voltage EV charging infrastructure that bypasses traditional grid bottlenecks. Its Prime Grid Gateway connects to medium- and high-voltage distribution lines to power up to eight SkyHook charging bays, delivering 200 kW to megawatt-scale charging and managing grid stability as a “good grid citizen.” The system enables deployment in four to five months by avoiding costly grid upgrades, and Kwetta also plans to monetize grid services like frequency control and voltage support. The company targets fleet operators, transport hubs, and public charging operators, with plans to expand into Australia and Europe to serve heavy-vehicle charging needs.

What believers are saying

  • Kwetta raised A$16.2 million in 2025, funding Australia and Europe expansion.
  • Fonterra installed Kwetta systems at Te Rapa, Waitoa, and Hautapu in 2026.
  • Kwetta now claims >99% uptime and supports 400kW CCS2 and MCS upgrades.

What critics are saying

  • European expansion since 2025 demands manufacturing scale Kwetta has not publicly proven.
  • A single utility or OEM integration failure could stall deployments across Australia and Europe.
  • If cheaper battery-buffered charging wins, Kwetta’s hardware-heavy grid gateway becomes stranded.

What makes Kwetta unique

  • Kwetta’s Prime Grid Gateway connects directly to medium-voltage grids, not low-voltage bottlenecks.
  • Ngātea went live with Z Energy and Powerco in under three months.
  • Kwetta’s system bundles charging with STATCOM grid support and reactive-power control.
