About the company

Tesla designs and sells electric vehicles and renewable energy products. Its cars (Model S, 3, X, Y, and Roadster) run on battery power, with a semi-autonomous Autopilot driving system and a global network of fast-charging stations called Superchargers. The company also provides solar panels, Solar Roof, and energy storage products (Powerwall, Powerpack, Megapack) to generate and store clean energy for homes and businesses. Tesla operates with a vertically integrated model, manufacturing key components (batteries, drivetrains) and selling directly to customers via its website and stores, while earning revenue from vehicle and energy product sales and regulatory credits. Its goal is to speed up the world’s transition to sustainable energy by combining mobility and energy solutions in one ecosystem.

Magnificent 7's cash advantage now a vulnerability as AI spending hits $1T

Bank of America strategist Michael Hartnett, who coined "Magnificent 7" in May 2023, warns the tech giants' defining strength has become a weakness. The group—Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla—initially attracted investors seeking alternatives to government bonds during fiscal excess. However, massive AI spending has transformed their financial profile. Global AI investment is expected to exceed $1 trillion in 2026, with hyperscalers now spending similar amounts annually. The companies have become cash-flow negative by $200 billion and increasingly reliant on corporate credit markets. With 10-year Treasury yields near two-decade highs and 30-year yields exceeding 5.5%, rising borrowing costs directly threaten the AI spending that drives their growth. Hartnett notes they've become "subservient to the bond market"—the very asset class they once served as a hedge against.

SpaceX leads Tesla with $1.95T valuation — which Musk company will be larger by 2027?

SpaceX currently leads Tesla with a market capitalisation of around $1.95 trillion compared to Tesla's $1.5 trillion, both companies being led by Elon Musk. SpaceX's stock trades near its $150 IPO price, indicating market acceptance of its valuation. The company grew revenue by 92% in the second quarter whilst operating in a high-growth phase without profits. SpaceX estimates it can achieve a 45% profit margin once fully mature. Tesla, meanwhile, has declined 17% this year and 24% from its all-time high. Whilst revenue continues growing, profits have decreased, making the stock less attractive to investors. Analysts suggest SpaceX's faster growth rate and higher profit potential position it to maintain its lead by the end of next year. However, merger discussions between the two companies could make such comparisons irrelevant.

Tesla Semi deliveries begin as stock trades 25% below 52-week high of $499

Tesla stock closed near $372 on Friday, roughly 25% below its 52-week high of $499, after slipping 0.8% for the week. The shares have lost 16% over the past year. The company began delivering its Semi electric truck to first customers in Nevada, almost nine years after unveiling the vehicle. However, Tesla provided no production targets or pricing details at the event. Two setbacks offset the milestone. The EU postponed its October vote on Full Self-Driving (Supervised) until December at the earliest. Reports also indicated that Optimus, Tesla's humanoid robot, faces problems with its complex hands and supplier quality as production scales. Tesla is targeting 1,000 robots weekly by year-end. Operating margin fell to 1.4% in Q2 as costs rose and capital expenditure jumped 142% to $5.8 billion.

Tesla launches high-volume Semi production with 50,000 truck capacity as Musk teases Roadster reveal

Tesla has launched high-volume Semi production at its Nevada factory, with CEO Elon Musk calling the electric truck a "game-changer". The 1.8 million-square-foot facility has capacity to produce 50,000 trucks annually. Musk said the Semi's waiting list was already "pretty significant". The company also released a teaser for its long-awaited Roadster sports car ahead of an October 1 unveiling. The brief video prompted speculation about a potential SpaceX-equipped version, as observers noted what appeared to be part of the SpaceX logo. Musk has previously discussed using cold-gas thrusters to boost the Roadster's performance. Tesla first showed a Roadster prototype in 2017, initially targeting 2020 deliveries. TSLA shares climbed 0.3% overnight and are up 4% this week.

Tesla stock down 23% from peak despite 2,660% gain over 10 years as growth slows

Tesla stock has surged 2,660% over the past decade but currently trades 23% below its peak. Recent growth has slowed significantly, with overall sales up just 10% on a trailing twelve-month basis compared to three years ago. The electric vehicle maker faces intensifying competition from legacy automakers and Chinese EV manufacturers. Macroeconomic headwinds, including higher interest rates and inflation, are pressuring consumer purchasing power for expensive vehicles. Despite challenges, Tesla maintains brand strength in the luxury EV segment. The Model Y has been the world's best-selling vehicle for three consecutive years, achieved without traditional advertising campaigns. Through the first half of 2026, automotive revenue grew 24%, though this represents a deceleration from earlier growth rates that attracted early investors.
