Surescripts

Secure health data exchange for prescriptions

Surescripts runs a nationwide health information network that connects payers, prescribers, pharmacies, and other healthcare organizations to securely exchange prescription data and related clinical information. The platform automates and standardizes the electronic transmission of prescriptions and supports at-the-point-care services such as Real-Time Prescription Benefit, Medication History, and Electronic Prior Authorization, handling billions of exchanges among providers. It stands out because its network spans nearly all EHR vendors, PBMs, pharmacies, and health plans, and is owned by pharmacy associations and major PBMs, ensuring broad interoperability and adherence to industry standards like NCPDP SCRIPT. The goal is to improve patient safety, reduce costs, and raise the quality of care by making prescription information fast, accurate, and available at the point of care.
