Goodyear highlights century of design collaboration at Paris Motor Show 2026.

Goodyear highlights century of design collaboration at Paris Motor Show 2026. * By TT News * October 16, 2026 Goodyear is presenting a collection of forward-looking concept and production vehicles at the Mondial de l'Auto Paris 2026 (Paris Motor Show 2026), taking place from 12 to 18 October at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, highlighting how tyres shape automotive design. For over a century, the company has influenced vehicle appearance, performance and driver connection, with its Advanced Design Studio partnering with manufacturers to create tyres that complement design, reinforce brand identity and support future mobility. Sebastien Fontaine, Lead Designer at Goodyear's Advanced Design Studio in Luxembourg, has explained that concept vehicles require customised tyres forming part of a vehicle's visual identity and supporting the car designer's vision. Close collaboration with OEM design teams lets Goodyear create unique solutions from early development through public reveal, using laser-carving technologies, customised sidewall treatments and premium production platforms. Opel's Sports Tourer eXperimental Concept, displayed on the Opel stand, represents the next stage of the brand's design philosophy and a bold vision for the electric estate of tomorrow. Its prominent 'Opel Vizor' face is accented by strong lighting signatures front and rear, while the side features fluid, technical surfacing, extendable diffuser elements and three-zone alloy wheels. The customised tyres, based on the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric and sized 285/35R22, were tailored to complement the concept's athletic stance, with visual cues extending from rim to sidewall. Peugeot's RCZ Vision concept debuts as the latest expression of the 'Feline Future' design language, inspired by the RCZ Coupé produced between 2009 and 2015. It embodies a feline stance leaning forward, with defined shoulders and a light signature of three horizontal claws front and rear. Its electric architecture includes a solid-state battery and 'X-by-Wire' technologies, with 500 horsepower delivered through 21-inch front and 22-inch rear forged-aluminium wheels. Tyres based on the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport, sized 255/35R21 and 295/30R22, feature a bespoke sidewall treatment connecting tyre to wheel and displaying the Goodyear and Eagle names. Across the show, a wide range of production vehicles carry Goodyear tyres, spanning utility, sports, off-road, electric and petrol-powered models. These tyres are developed for efficiency, grip and durability, enhancing each vehicle's capabilities. Highlights from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Jeep, DS, Volkswagen, Lancia, Fiat, Renault and others can be followed on Goodyear's social channels. Goodyear's concept vehicle presence extends beyond the current show. For decades, it has collaborated with manufacturers on visionary concepts through innovative tire designs and custom OE partnerships. Milestones include the 2013 Wingfoot Concept and the 2015 BH-03 Concept, which introduced ideas around energy generation and intelligent mobility. The 2016 Eagle-360 Concept, featuring a spherical tire design, challenged conventional thinking about autonomous mobility, was named one of TIME Magazine's 'Best Inventions of 2016' and earned several design awards. Later concepts including IntelliGrip, Eagle-360 Urban, Oxygene, Aero and reCharge explored artificial intelligence, autonomous transportation, sustainable materials, flying mobility and renewable tyre technologies, with several earning international design and innovation awards. More recent collaborations include the Citroën Skate Concept, Citroën Oli, Toyota Aygo X Prologue, Lancia PU+RA HPE, Opel Experimental and Peugeot Polygon.

Modern Tire Dealer

Editorial: global or local?

Editorial: global or local? The tire industry is global, but most of Modern Tire Dealer tend to think of it in regional terms. Oct. 9, 2026 The tire industry is global, but most of Modern Tire Dealer tend to think of it in regional terms - North America, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Europe and so on. While it's true that many global tire manufacturers give their regions a considerable amount of latitude, at many companies, strategic direction, product development and other important functions tend to emanate from the home office. A recent whirlwind tour - three cities in three days - of Hankook Tire & Technology Co. Ltd.'s Technoplex headquarters, Technodome research and development hub and Technoplex proving grounds, all located in South Korea, reminded me of that. I discovered that what Hankook does in South Korea doesn't always stay in South Korea - by design. You can probably say the same for Clermont-Ferrand, France (home of Michelin Group); Hanover, Germany (worldwide headquarters of Continental AG); Tokyo, Japan (where Bridgestone Corp. and Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. are located); Akron, Ohio (hometown of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.) and places where other global players are domiciled. At the same time, many manufacturers have embraced a "local for local" strategy - also for good reasons. Bridgestone Americas Inc. operates plants in Aiken, S.C.; Warren County, Tenn.; Bloomington, Ill.; Des Moines, Iowa; and two others in the U.S., plus one plant in Canada and two plants in Mexico (Monterrey and Cuernavaca). The company also produces racing tires at a facility in Akron. Continental Tire the Americas LLC has three plants in the U.S.: one in Mount Vernon, Ill.; one in Sumter, S.C.; and one in Clinton, Miss. Giti Tire (USA) Ltd.'s U.S. plant is in Richburg, S.C. Goodyear has seven plants in the U.S. - Danville, Va.; Fayetteville, N.C., which is scheduled to close next year; Findlay, Ohio; Lawton, Okla.; Texarkana, Ark.; Tupelo, Miss.; and Topeka, Kan. (Like Bridgestone, Goodyear also builds racing tires in Akron.) In addition, Goodyear has two plants in Canada and another in Mexico. Hankook Tire America Corp.'s U.S. plant is in Clarksville, Tenn. Kumho Tire U.S.A. Inc.'s U.S. plant is in Macon, Ga. Michelin North America Inc.'s U.S. plants can be found in Dothan, Ala.; Fort Wayne, Indiana; Greenville, S.C.; Lexington, S.C.; Piedmont, S.C.; Sparanburg, S.C.; Starr, S.C.; and Tuscaloosa, Ala. The company also operates three plants in Canada and a plant in Mexico. Nokian Tyres has a plant in Dayton, Tenn. Pirelli Tire North America Inc. has a plant in Rome, Ga., and another in Guanajuato, Mexico. Sailun Tire USA also owns and operates a plant in Mexico while Specialty Tires of America Inc. makes products in Indiana, Pa., and Unicoi, Tenn. Titan International Inc. has four U.S. plants - one in Bryan, Ohio; one in Des Moines, Iowa; one in Clinton, Tenn.; and another in Freeport, Ill. Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. has a plant in White, Ga. Yokohama Tire Corp. has a plant in West Point, Miss. Another division of Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd., Yokohama TWS, builds tires in Charles City, Iowa. JK Tyre & Industries, Grupo Corso and Corporacion de Occidente SA de CV operate plants in Mexico. (JK Tyre & Industries has two. The others each have one.) Together, all of these plants have the capacity to manufacture slightly more than 929,000 tires per day, according to MTD research. That's an astounding number of tires. (I would encourage you to grab a copy of MTD's 2026 Facts Issue, published this past January, if you want to see precise production capacity amounts for each company.) More plants are in the works. Yokohama and ZC Rubber are at various stages of plant construction in Mexico. Nexen Tire America plans to put up a plant in the U.S. at some point. Other plants have shut down. Michelin stopped making tires at its Ardmore, Okla., plant last year. (The company still uses the factory as a rubber mixing facility.) Bridgestone closed its plant in LaVergne, Tenn., last year. Yokohama TWS closed its plant in Spartanburg, S.C., also in 2025. Yokohama, too, closed its Salem, Va., plant in 2025. Titan has announced the closing of its plant in Jackson, Tenn. "Local for local" will remain an important strategy, just as global tiremakers will continue to develop products, technologies and business direction that will radiate to regions in other parts of the world. Both of these strategies are a must in today's hyper-connected industry. Question? Comments? Email me at [email protected] Editor. Mike Manges is Modern Tire Dealer's editor. Goodyear Tire smoker penalty lawsuit moves forward after trim. Oct. 8, 2026, 11:59 AM PDT Former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. employees challenging the company's practice of charging extra healthcare premiums to workers who smoke can proceed with a portion of their lawsuit, an Ohio federal judge said Thursday. The tire maker may have violated statutory and regulatory rules governing employee wellness programs by failing to sufficiently explain that workers can have the penalties retroactively reimbursed in some instances, or that notes from their doctors will be considered when assessing the penalties, Judge Christopher A. Boyko said. Goodyear argued the federal regulation requiring notice about doctor's notes was invalid now that the US Supreme Court... Goodyear to exit chemical business with closure of last two US plants.

Goodyear to exit chemical business with closure of last two US plants. * By TT News * October 08, 2026 The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has approved a plan to close its last two chemical manufacturing plants in the United States, located in Niagara Falls, New York, and Bayport, Texas. This decision, made on 29 September 2026, signifies the company's complete withdrawal from the chemical sector as it seeks to streamline operations and concentrate solely on its core tyre products and services. The decommissioning process is set to begin immediately, with operations at the Niagara Falls facility potentially ceasing by 31 October 2026. The full shutdown is expected to be largely finished by the end of 2027. This move will result in roughly 85 job losses across both sites. Goodyear anticipates total pre-tax exit charges between USD 55 million and USD 75 million, yet projects an annual boost of USD 15 million to USD 20 million to its Americas segment operating income starting in 2027. This announcement follows the company's October 2025 sale of most of its polymer and chemical operations to a Gemspring Capital Management affiliate for USD 650 million. The Niagara Falls plant, operational since 1946, has also been under heavy regulatory scrutiny and investigative reporting concerning emissions of ortho-toluidine, a known carcinogen, which allegedly surpassed legal limits.
