Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in health sciences, business, healthcare administration, or law is required; appropriate experience may substitute for education on an equivalent basis.
  • Five years of related experience is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and persistent follow-through are required for preaward grants and clinical research support.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail are required.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations, especially National Institutes of Health and Office of Management and Budget requirements, and ability to interpret organizational policies and guidelines for research management are required.
  • Strong computer skills and comfort using multiple web-based systems are required.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with external sponsors and internal personnel while adhering to institutional requirements is required.
  • Ability to maintain confidences, work effectively in a stressful, deadline-driven environment, and plan and organize projects affecting others is required.
  • Strong customer service skills, including courteous and helpful behavior, accomplishing tasks through teamwork and initiative, timely and thorough responses to complaints and critiques, and anticipating the needs of colleagues and partners, are required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a specialized, complex portfolio with independence, accountability, professional judgment, critical thinking, initiative, and ownership of outcomes.
  • Facilitate, submit, negotiate, and award clinical trials; develop and implement compliance measures; and draft and manage sub-recipient awards supporting clinical research.
  • Demonstrate dependable follow-through in managing deadlines, high-volume submissions, and complex awards without routine oversight.
  • Interpret sponsor and institutional policies, identify risks, and resolve issues proactively.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate clinical trial agreements, material transfer agreements, data use and transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, and related subtier agreements.
  • Interpret and communicate institutional and sponsor policies and procedures to ensure compliance, and keep the department apprised of changes in relevant granting-agency policies and regulations.
  • Work with departments and central administrative offices to achieve compliance.
  • Represent the Grants and Contracts Office to departments and sponsoring agencies with clarity and authority.
  • Serve as a consistent resource for team stability and reliability, particularly during peak periods.
  • Expand subject-matter expertise, identify process improvements, and build readiness for an increasingly complex research enterprise.
  • Model professionalism and accountability, reinforce team standards, and contribute positively to team culture.
  • Partner with other Grants and Contracts Office analysts and Medical College of Wisconsin stakeholders in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Juris Doctor, master's degree, or other advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience in contract administration and contract negotiation is preferred.
