About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree or greater in mathematics, engineering, physics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, ideally a statistical analysis language such as MATLAB or R.
Responsibilities
  • Develop an automated system to run continuous regression tests against ground-truth annotated images.
  • Work with algorithm developers to design tests that qualify algorithms to perform robustly and in a well-characterized manner on real-world noisy images.
  • Generate statistical reports highlighting failure modes, frequencies, and error distributions.
  • Gather, curate, and annotate large development and test datasets.
  • Work with domain experts to understand proper annotations and target values.
  • Develop annotation tools, annotate some data, and manage contract annotators.
  • Exploit opportunities for automation using simulators, approval of algorithm-generated annotations, and similar methods.
  • Write simulations from scratch and create simulated distortions and corruptions of real data.
  • Instrument algorithm code for white-box testing and aid in designing metrics that indicate algorithm failure.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience statistically analyzing large datasets, ideally in a quality-control setting.
  • Skill with JMP, Statistica, SAS, or similar tools.
  • Experience with image processing, machine vision, machine learning, or estimation theory.
  • Familiarity with standard image and data formats, databases, SQL, XML, JSON, and HTML.
  • Experience with geographic information systems or remote sensing.

About the company

Mavrx provides agritech imagery and analytics for farming. It collects data from piloted aircraft, satellites, and UAVs to produce ultra-high-resolution imagery and crop-and-soil analyses. Images and insights are delivered via web and mobile apps within 24 to 72 hours after a flight, with satellite tools later offered for free to grow its user base. Its assets were acquired by Taranis, combining UHR imagery with broader precision-agriculture services, and the goal is to help farmers increase yields and lower costs through data-driven decisions.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Taranis still references Mavrx UHR imagery on its 2026-updated newsroom page.
  • Mavrx's aircraft-based imagery remains valuable for weed, disease, and nutrient detection.
  • The Mavrx acquisition expanded Taranis's U.S. footprint and acreage coverage immediately.

What critics are saying

  • Mavrx no longer operates independently; Taranis absorbed its sales and operations in 2018.
  • Mavrx.co only shows a generic 2026 signup page, signaling brand dormancy.
  • Any Mavrx talent or product edge depends entirely on Taranis's broader agricultural platform.

What makes Mavrx unique

  • Mavrx built 8 cm-per-pixel aerial imagery before Taranis bought it in 2018.
  • Taranis said Mavrx added 60 planes across 30 U.S. states.
  • Mavrx's UHR imagery gave field-level scouting detail satellites missed.
