Japan-America Society of DFW celebrates record-breaking Otsukimi Japanese Moon Viewing Festival with over 18,000 attendees. This year's festival showcased anime voice star Emi Lo, taiko, sumo, live music and immersive Japanese cultural experiences PLANO, TX, October 08, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ - With welcoming remarks by Plano Mayor John Muns, more than 18,000 attendees filled Haggard Park for the 2026 Otsukimi Japanese Moon Viewing Festival, setting a new attendance record for the annual celebration presented by the Japan-America Society of DFW (JASDFW). View Event Photos One of the evening's most anticipated guests was Emi Lo, acclaimed anime English voice actress in many popular anime series including the hit series The Apothecary Diaries. Fans gathered at the Main Stage for a special appearance and screening by Lo, highlighting one of Japan's most popular contemporary cultural exports and creating a memorable experience for anime enthusiasts of all ages. Traditional Japanese culture was equally prominent throughout the evening. Dallas Kiyari Daiko energized the crowd with powerful taiko drumming, while the popular Dallas Sumo Club presented multiple sumo wrestling demonstrations drawing huge crowds and cheers. The entertainment lineup also included a classic anime Ghibli songs concert by Nova Pangea, energetic and entertaining dance performances by Okinawa Eisa Ryukyu-damashii and Lonestar Yosakoi, the Dallas Cherry Blossom Children's Chorus, and a live J-pop performance by Sallad singing several popular anime theme songs, finishing off with a song from the Apothecary Diaries. Beyond the performances, thousands of guests explored Japanese and Asian cuisine, a bustling marketplace of artists and vendors, anime and pop-culture experiences, traditional Japanese children's games and hands-on cultural activities including calligraphy, flower arranging and tea ceremony. The success of the festival was made possible through the support of the community, volunteers, performers, vendors, partners and sponsors. JASDFW recognizes Toyota as its Community Impact Partner, along with key festival sponsors EZ On Coat, SpotOn, H-E-B, Kawai, 7-Eleven, NEC, i Fratelli Pizza, Dimaco, Art Centre of Plano, The Original Pancake House DFW, Crunchyroll, The Time Group and FC Dallas. San Marcos' newest H-E-B outpost will open Wednesday with barbecue, giveaways and more.

San Marcos' newest H-E-B outpost will open Wednesday with barbecue, giveaways and more. By Rhyma Castillo, San Antonio Express-News The Tribune Content Agency Updated October 6, 2026 7:15 PM Gift Article San Marcos shoppers have a new place to stock up on groceries, grab barbecue and, apparently, start their mornings very early. H-E-B is opening its newest San Marcos store at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, bringing a 114,000-square-foot grocery store to 1074 E. McCarty Lane, just off Interstate 35. The new location is San Marcos' third H-E-B outpost and the grocery chain's latest addition to the fast-growing I-35 corridor. It also brings a first for the city: a True Texas BBQ restaurant. Customers can expect the in-store barbecue bastion to serve H-E-B's signature smoked meats, including brisket, along with sides like brisket beans, creamed corn and homestyle potato salad. The restaurant will have indoor seating, so shoppers can turn a grocery run into a barbecue run without ever leaving the store. The store will also include H-E-B staples such as a bakery, tortilleria, deli, meat and seafood departments, Sushiya sushi and Meal Simple prepared foods. Customers will also have access to curbside pickup, home delivery and a drive-thru pharmacy. For opening day, H-E-B is starting the party before sunrise, according to the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce. The grand opening celebration begins at 4 a.m. with free coffee, goodies and a DJ, followed by 5:45 a.m. performances from San Marcos High School's Diamond Dance Team, Drumline and Mariachi Band. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony 6 a.m. sharp, after which doors will open to customers. The first 250 customers in line will get free hats and goodie bags, while the first 100 Curbside customers will get free hats. And yes, there will be barbecue and seafood demonstrations at 11 a.m., along with an appearance from Texas State mascots Boko and Koko from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. - because if there's one thing H-E-B is going to do, it's go all out for a grand opening event.
