About the company

NXP Semiconductors designs and sells semiconductor chips for vehicles and other devices. Its products include automotive-grade microcontrollers and other ICs used in engines, infotainment, safety systems, and networked car architectures. These chips process data, run software, and enable features such as advanced driver assistance and vehicle connectivity, often with strong security and real-time performance. Unlike some peers, NXP became an independent company after Philips spun off its semiconductor unit in 2006 and later merged with Freescale in 2015, building a focused strength in automotive semiconductors and microcontrollers. This gives it a clear niche in the market and the goal of growing as a standalone leader in smarter, connected vehicles and related technologies.

NXP upbeat on software-defined vehicles outlook.

NXP upbeat on software-defined vehicles outlook. 29 October 2026 Editor at Bits&Chips Reading time: 1 minute NXP's quarterly automotive revenue exceeded 2 billion dollars for the first time in the third quarter, growing 17 percent year-on-year when excluding its divested sensor business. The increase came despite broadly flat vehicle production, reflecting the growing value of the Dutch chipmaker's chips in each car. Its software-defined vehicle portfolio is now generating more than 1.5 billion dollars in annualized revenue, keeping the company on track for its 2-billion-dollar target in 2027. The shift toward zonal and centralized computing architectures could double or triple NXP's chip content per vehicle, CEO Rafael Sotomayor said on an earnings call with analysts. These architectures consolidate functions previously spread across numerous dedicated controllers, creating demand for more powerful processors alongside networking and power management chips. RV Tech, Volkswagen and Rivian's joint venture, has recently standardized its zonal platform on NXP's S32K5 processors for both carmakers. NXP expects its first S32K5 shipments in China as early as the first quarter of 2027, with initial production ramps for its S32N central computing platform likely late that year. Both platforms are expected to reach full-volume ramps in 2028. Electrification is also contributing to automotive growth as demand for NXP's products recovers from last year's inventory correction. Total third-quarter revenue rose 19 percent to 3.79 billion dollars. NXP expects fourth-quarter revenue of approximately 3.85 billion dollars, with automotive sales growing by a high-teens percentage year-on-year when adjusted for the sensor divestment. NXP sees revenue rise to $3.8 billion.

NXP sees revenue rise to $3.8 billion. Chipmaker NXP Semiconductors achieved revenue of $3.79 billion in the third quarter of 2026. That is an increase of 19 percent compared with the same period a year earlier and growth of 8 percent compared with the previous quarter. The results were driven in particular by strong demand from the automotive sector, industry, and data centers. In addition to the quarterly figures, the company announced it would expand its share buyback program by $5 billion. Eindhoven-based NXP, listed on Nasdaq, ended the quarter on September 27, 2026. On the bottom line, it reported a GAAP net profit of $3.48 per share (non-GAAP: $4.20). Gross margin came in at 57.8 percent (non-GAAP: 58.6 percent), while operating margin was 32.4 percent (non-GAAP: 37.1 percent). Operating cash flow was $1.26 billion. After deducting $50 million in net investments, the chip giant generated free cash flow of $1.21 billion, equivalent to approximately 32 percent of total revenue. Growth drivers in automotive and data centers. According to Rafael Sotomayor, president and CEO of NXP, the performance is supported by company-specific growth drivers: "Our performance was driven by accelerating contributions from our growth drivers in the automotive and industrial market, as well as sustained momentum in data center infrastructure. Strong profitability and robust free cash flow enable us to continue investing in innovative solutions and expanding production capacity to support our long-term objectives." For the coming period, Sotomayor sees opportunities in particular in so-called 'software-defined vehicles', which drive demand for advanced chips, as well as in data center infrastructure and 'trusted physical AI' applications. Strategic milestones and capital returns. In the past quarter, NXP returned $359 million to shareholders. Of this, $256 million was paid out as dividends and $103 million was spent on buying back its own shares. In October, NXP's board of directors decided to expand the share buyback program by a further $5 billion, on top of the remaining budget of $1.3 billion. Operationally and strategically, NXP achieved a number of important milestones in recent months: * BMW partnership: In early August, NXP announced that BMW Group would roll out NXP's Trimension Ultra-Wideband (UWB) solutions across its fleet, starting with selected 2026 models. * Factory expansion in Malaysia: In mid-August, the first pile was driven for an expansion of the assembly and test facility in Malaysia. * New factory in Singapore: At the end of September, VSMC - the joint venture between Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) and NXP - celebrated the official opening of its first 300mm fab in Singapore. ON Semiconductor falls 5%, NXP Semiconductors drops 4% as soft guidance revives auto chip worries; Skyworks ticks up, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments dip.

ON Semiconductor falls 5%, NXP Semiconductors drops 4% as soft guidance revives auto chip worries; Skyworks ticks up, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments dip. NXP Semiconductors beat earnings estimates but its cautious outlook sent auto-exposed chipmakers sliding, and the ripple effect is hitting ON Semiconductor harder than NXP itself. Whether that selloff signals a broader auto chip downturn or a buying opportunity depends on... Handset-focused peers are a mixed bag today, it seems. Soft guidance from NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ:NXPI | NXPI Price Prediction) is hitting the chipmakers most tied to the auto industry. ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ:ON) stock is at $75 in afternoon trading, down 5%, the biggest drop in the group. NXP stock is at $245, down 4%. Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ:SWKS) stock is at $87, up 1%, moving against the selling in auto-linked chip names. NXP pairs a strong quarter with a softer outlook. Key data−. Previous Close Market Cap Day's Range 52wk Range Dividend Yield After the close on October 27, NXP reported Q3 2026 results that looked strong on their own. Sales at NXP Semiconductors reached $3.79 billion, up 19% from a year earlier, ahead of Wall Street analysts' consensus of $3.76 billion. Demand at NXP was broad, too, with management describing growth in every region. On the bottom line, NXP Semiconductors earned adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $4.20, exceeding Wall Street analysts' consensus of $4.12. Where NXP disappointed was its outlook for the final quarter of the year. NXP Semiconductors guided Q4 2026 revenue to $3.75 billion to $3.95 billion, a midpoint of $3.85 billion versus Wall Street analysts' consensus of $3.86 billion. That shortfall is slight, and the company's adjusted EPS guide at the midpoint exceeding the consensus of Wall Street analysts, $4.34. The midpoint of that range implies NXP Semiconductors' revenue growth slowing to 15% from a year earlier. In Q3, NXP Semiconductors' automotive business, which makes up more than half of the company's sales, grew 13%, trailing the company's overall pace. TE Connectivity (NYSE:TEL) has also named weaker vehicle production as a constraint on its fiscal 2027, adding to concerns about chip demand from carmakers. A new $5 billion addition to NXP Semiconductors' buyback hasn't been enough to offset that read. Free Report, Just Released Why Didn't NXPI Make The Top 10 List? 24/7 Wall St has helped investors make money for over two decades, and our top analysts just finished ranking the definitive Top 10 Stocks To Buy Now. Not the ten biggest companies. Not the ten everyone is arguing about. The ten best stocks to buy right now. And NXPI didn't make the cut! The report is free, and you can see why we think each stock is a top investment today. ON Semiconductor and Skyworks split on auto exposure. ON Semiconductor is trading on a read-across from NXP's auto numbers. The company sells power chips. These include silicon carbide devices used in electric-vehicle inverters and industrial power conversion, so auto demand carries more weight for it than for most peers. That exposure helps explain why ON Semiconductor is falling harder than NXP itself. Even so, ON Semiconductor stock is up 38% year to date (YTD). Skyworks is the contrast, selling radio-frequency chips for smartphones, and the iPhone maker is its largest customer. An auto slowdown barely touches that business, and Skyworks stock has gained ground over the past week as well. Chip funds are moving the same way. The iShares Semiconductor ETF is at $517, up 1%, a sign the selling is concentrated in auto-exposed names. Tech overall is quieter, with the Invesco QQQ Trust at $722, up 0.1%. Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) stock is at $182, down 1%. Texas Instruments (NASDAQ:TXN) is sliding as well, with its stock at $305, down 1%. Handset exposure hasn't fully protected Qualcomm, which cuts against a perfectly clean split between auto and smartphone chipmakers. The two stocks are dipping from very different starting points. Since the start of the year, Texas Instruments stock is up 79%. Gains at Qualcomm are more modest, with the stock up 8% YTD. NXP stock is up 14% YTD as well, even after the drop. What ON Semiconductor's next report could reveal. For ON Semiconductor, the question is whether its upcoming quarterly report shows the same auto drag that NXP's numbers suggested at. On August 3, ON Semiconductor's management called automotive "very stable with a good outlook," a view the company's next results could confirm or revise. A pending acquisition of Synaptics (NASDAQ:SYNA) which was revised earlier this month, adds another moving piece to the ON Semiconductor story. For NXP, the risk is a Q4 that lands at the low end of its range if auto demand weakens further. The bulls can point to NXP's earnings beat, its expanded buyback and ON Semiconductor's strong run this year as signs the auto worry may be overdone. The bears, meanwhile, see slower auto growth at NXP as an early warning that could spread to ON Semiconductor and other suppliers to carmakers. Interest rates add one more variable, with the Federal Reserve's policy decision scheduled for today. For traders, waiting could make sense until ON Semiconductor's auto outlook becomes clearer.
