BlackRock's Summer 2027 application asks you to make several choices early: one region, one program and a short list of functions. Sort those out before you submit, because withdrawing later does not give the application slot back.

What you should know about BlackRock internships

  • The Americas Summer Internship is a nine-week program for undergraduate and master's students graduating from September 2027 through July 2028.
  • BlackRock opens 2027 functions in waves. Investments opened in January, Client and Product plus Corporate Functions in March, and Technology in July.
  • You may choose one region and one program. Within that program, two applications can cover no more than three functions.

QuestionVerified answer
Are Summer 2027 applications open?Yes. The Americas Summer Internship is active, with Technology functions opening in July 2026.
How long is the program? The Americas Summer Internship runs for nine weeks from June through August.
Who can apply?Undergraduate or master's students graduating from September 2027 through July 2028, depending on the program.
How much does it pay?Current US hourly ranges run from about $34.62 to $60.10, depending on function and location.
How many applications can I submit? One program, up to two applications and no more than three functions in the Americas.
When is the assessment due?Within five days of the invitation. BlackRock does not offer a retake.

What matters most: BlackRock's application limit turns function selection into a real decision. If you cannot explain why one or two teams fit, adding an unrelated third choice will not make the application stronger.

When do BlackRock Summer 2027 internship applications open?

BlackRock does not release every Americas function at once. For 2027, recruiting is split into waves, so the useful opening date depends on the business area you want.

Americas business area or program2027 openingExpected review period
InvestmentsJanuary 2026February through March
Client and ProductMarch 2026April through May
Corporate FunctionsMarch 2026April through May
TechnologyJuly 2026September through December
MBA and Quantitative Master'sSeptember 2026October through December

For Technology candidates, August is a sensible time to finish the application and start preparing for interviews. If another function is missing, check its recruiting wave before assuming it has closed. Use the Summer 2027 internship timeline to compare BlackRock's cycle with other employers.

EMEA and APAC use their own calendars and eligibility rules. The main EMEA program lasts eight weeks and has different deadlines by location. APAC covers Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo. Read the regional rules before you start, since BlackRock permits one recruiting region.

What BlackRock internship programs can I apply to?

Degree level and graduation date usually decide the program for you. Choose functions only after that check. An undergraduate, for example, should not use the MBA or Quantitative Master's route just because a preferred team appears there.

What types of internships does BlackRock offer?

Some BlackRock function names are broad enough to sound interchangeable, but the work and interview paths are not. Read the responsibilities first. Knowing iShares or Aladdin helps only if you can connect that knowledge to the team you chose.

Investments

Investment functions include Portfolio Management, Private Markets, Quantitative Investing, Research, Capital Markets, Infrastructure, and Investment Product Strategy and Solutions. The application should show how you reached a view when the information was incomplete. An investment memo, portfolio project, market analysis or research paper can work if it makes the assumptions and downside case visible.

Do not turn the resume into a list of finance clubs. Explain one decision: what you evaluated, which evidence mattered, what could have invalidated the conclusion and how you communicated it.

Client and Product

Client and Product teams connect BlackRock's investment capabilities with institutions, advisors and other clients. The work can involve product strategy, relationship support, analysis and communication. Good evidence includes a client-ready recommendation, a research brief written for a nontechnical audience or a project where you translated a complex result into a decision.

Corporate and Strategic Functions

This group includes Accounting, Audit, Governance, Communications, Strategy and Finance, Compliance, Sourcing, HR, Marketing, Public Policy, and Strategic Clients. The proof changes by function. An audit candidate can show a control finding and response; a finance candidate can show a model tied to a business decision; a communications candidate needs clear writing built for a defined audience.

Operations

Operations covers Client Experience and Investment Operations. These teams support transactions, data, controls and the services that keep investment activity moving. Show a process improvement with a measurable result, but include the risk and control side of the decision. Speed alone is not a strong outcome if accuracy suffered.

Technology, Analytics and Risk

Technology functions include Software Engineering and Technology Operations, while Analytics and Modeling work can sit closer to quantitative systems and risk. Software candidates should lead with a finished system, testing choices and a technical trade-off. Analytics candidates should explain the question, method, validation and limits of the result.

These functions use a different assessment path. Software Engineering and Analytics and Modeling candidates receive coding work in addition to a video response. If you apply across both, BlackRock may send separate coding tests because the functions evaluate different skills.

How hard is it to get a BlackRock internship, and what does it pay?

BlackRock does not publish a verified internship acceptance rate. What you can see are the filters: degree timing, the region and program limits, function fit, assessment completion and relevant work. A generic finance resume may meet the basic requirements without giving a specific team a reason to interview you.

These are posting ranges, so the top number is not a standard intern rate. Pay changes by function and office, and the requisition lists the range that applies. BlackRock also limits visa sponsorship to certain cases based on business need. Check the role instead of assuming there is one companywide policy.

How do I apply for a BlackRock Summer 2027 internship?

  1. Choose one region. Decide between the Americas, EMEA and APAC before starting. BlackRock does not let a candidate apply across multiple regions in the same program year.
  2. Choose one program. Match the Summer, MBA, Quantitative Master's or Mexico City route to the degree and graduation window.
  3. Rank no more than three functions. The first application can include two functions. A second application may add one more.
  4. Build a function-specific resume. Put the closest finished work near the top and describe the decision or output, not only the tools used.
  5. Prepare before submitting. The assessment clock starts when the invitation arrives, not when you have free time.
  6. Track every choice. Save the program, function, region, date, assessment deadline and resume version.

⚠️
Withdrawing does not reset the limit. BlackRock says a withdrawn application still counts toward the annual allowance, and you cannot replace it with another function. Review every selection before you submit.

How should I prepare for a BlackRock internship interview?

The pre-interview assessment is the first deadline to plan around. Most candidates record short video responses in one sitting. Each answer can last up to three minutes, and the full video process takes less than 15 minutes. You have five days to complete it.

Software Engineering and Analytics and Modeling candidates receive a coding assessment with coding questions and one video response. BlackRock says the coding portion takes about 60 minutes. There are no retakes, so confirm the environment, internet connection and deadline before beginning.

⏱️
The five-day deadline is firm. Missing it leaves the application incomplete and can trigger automatic withdrawal. You cannot reapply to the same opportunity after that deadline.

Later interviews can cover BlackRock's Principles, your experience and the skills required by the function. Depending on the team, the process may also include a case, presentation or group exercise. Software candidates should expect technical problem solving. Prepare one detailed example of a decision made under a real constraint, then adjust the technical depth for the team.

  • Investments: defend an idea, state what would change your mind and discuss risk.
  • Client and Product: turn analysis into a clear recommendation for a specific audience.
  • Operations: reason through a process failure, control issue or escalation.
  • Technology: explain architecture, testing, failure modes and a trade-off in code.

For behavioral preparation, use the behavioral interview guide to make each example specific without memorizing a script.

What is a BlackRock internship actually like?

The Americas Summer Internship lasts nine weeks, from June through August. BlackRock includes orientation, team responsibilities, speaker sessions and mentoring. When you speak with a recruiter, ask what an intern is expected to own by the final week. The answer might be a model, an analysis, client material, a product deliverable or an operational improvement.

The BlackRock Founders Scholarship is tied to the US Summer Internship Program. Current Summer 2027 interns can apply for the $20,000 scholarship. It is separate from internship pay and should not be treated as part of the hourly compensation range.

BlackRock internship FAQ

Is it hard to get a BlackRock internship?

Yes, because BlackRock uses specific degree windows, limited application choices and function-level assessments. The company does not publish a verified internship acceptance rate, so focus on the filters you can control: eligibility, function fit, assessment completion and relevant evidence.

Do BlackRock interns get paid?

Yes. Current US Summer 2027 posting ranges run from about $34.62 to $60.10 per hour, depending on function and location. The requisition controls the exact range for an individual role.

When do BlackRock internship applications open?

BlackRock opens Americas functions in waves. For 2027, Investments opened in January, Client and Product plus Corporate Functions in March, Technology in July, and the MBA and Quantitative Master's programs open in September.

What's the easiest way to get a BlackRock internship?

There is no easy function. The most efficient route is the program and function where you already have a close work sample, such as an investment memo, tested system, client recommendation or controlled process improvement.

Can I apply to more than one BlackRock internship?

In the Americas, you may apply to one program and submit up to two applications that cover no more than three functions. A withdrawn application still counts, so do not use a slot as a placeholder.

Does BlackRock sponsor international students?

BlackRock says sponsorship is available only in limited cases based on business need and is not guaranteed. Check the current requisition and ask recruiting about that role rather than assuming one rule applies to every function.

Compare BlackRock with the Morgan Stanley internship guide, the Wells Fargo Summer 2027 guide and the Citadel internship guide. The firms recruit for different work, so reuse your evidence only when the function and output actually match.
